About Us
We are pleased to announce that the Wilmington Stingrays Swim Team will be starting its 40+ year in swimming in the year 2026. Our swim team provides the tools necessary for children to reach their highest potential in life, with swimming as a vehicle. The Stingrays meet for practice and competition at Legion Stadium, located on Carolina Beach Road.
Our swimming program is offered at a low cost to the swimmers and their families. In the summer of 2025, we carried an active roster of 171 swimmers ages 5 to 18 years from 92 families, all of who live and frequent businesses in Wilmington and surrounding areas.
The Mission of the Stingrays Program
The Stingrays mission centers on the following points:
- To develop and prepare young swimmers for other competitive/high school programs
- To provide an enriching, shared athletic activity in which all members of the family, over age of 5, are able to participate.
- To teach and set positive examples of good sportsmanship.
- To promote neighborhood spirit, and to encourage community bonds.
- To learn and practice positive work habits, instilling a sense of discipline.
- To have fun, make friends, and exercise.
As time goes on and the details of how our mission is accomplished may change, these six points will still provide a basis for the quality athletic program that is the Wilmington Stingrays.
